"My paintings relate to the microscopic world. Working with organic shapes that resemble cross sections of cell tissues and one-cell organisms. The compositions of these works are not premeditated. They take form and grow spontaneously. In contrast, printmaking allows me to create more controlled visual textures and lines. Woodcut prints, in particular, are a joy to make. My prints are a celebration of nature and the animal kingdom."

Alejandra S. was a painter until she discovered and fell in love with contemporary jewelry design. She is fascinated by the endless possibilities of the medium. By experimenting with various techniques, Alejandra combines painting and sculpting to create one of a kind wearable works of art. The number 2212 is a reference to the boiling point (Celcius) of silver. All 2212 are hand made in Argentina.

Noelle Garcia

Noelle was born in Reno, Nevada in 1984 and raised on the Reno Sparks Indian Colony. She is an enrolled member of the federally recognized Klamath Tribes. Her work is narrative; a form of story telling in which she often uses decaying family photos as reference. "These photos are so precious to me." she says. "The feeling of forgetting my family distresses me so I look to the photos for remembrance. In many cases the photos have faded, losing all detail and distinguishing facial features. The process of recreating these images brings me closer to the people or location depicted in them. Through my painting process I am able to have a relationship with deceased loved ones such my father, Walt." The figures in Noelle's paintings are ambiguous, with little or no facial features and convey a feeling of lost or fading identity.

Dreaming Big: Latin Pop Shop

Welcome to Latin Pop Shop's blog!

Last year I began toying with a concept for an art-related business. I came up with something that will still allow me time behind the easel, but will also allow me to reach out to other artists (as well as the community). Something that speaks of who I am as an artist and a person. Something that honors my heritage. I came up with Latin Pop Shop, named after "Latin Pop"—the term I have used to describe my signature style of painting for years.

As a full time artist, I know the struggle and juggle of creating art, finding representation and of course, selling. As an artist of Latin descent, I yearn to bring our multi-faceted culture to the masses. And as an art lover and former gallery director, this is simply all I know and love! Latin Pop Shop is the combination and embodiment of my passions. It is a concept I am willing to put my hard work behind because I truly believe in its great potential.

Latin Pop Shop is a new online retail Gallery and Boutique representing Latino and Latino-American artists and artisans. It will specialize in art, jewelry and apparel, but will not be limited to these alone. If it is bold and colorful and depicts or celebrates Latin culture, made or painted by Latin hands, conceived or written by creative Latino individuals… Latin Pop Shop will probably want to share it with the world!

Though it will be launched online, we also are considering “physical” representation of our artists in the form of art festivals and trade shows (perhaps even Latin Pop Shop Tour events!). Another goal for the future is Latin Pop Shop storefronts! For now, we will direct the bulk of our efforts and resources to e-commerce and take each step that follows wisely and logically as we grow. We are committed to representing our artists in ways that are sensible and well planned.

It has been so exciting… starting the year off with a clear goal, building it piece by piece. I look forward to watching Latin Pop Shop grow into a big success!

I'm dreaming big and I'm committing to my dreams. 2010 will be the year of Latin Pop Shop!
